Twitter & Calendar Support

Hi guys, sorry for the long time between posts but we’ve been hard at work bringing some great new things to Thumbslap that we hope will make it even better for you :)

Add to any calendar

You can now add individual game nights to a calendar of your choice by clicking on the “Add to Calendar” link on the game night page. We currently support the following formats:

Google Calendar
Yahoo Calendar
Outlook (.ics)
iCal

Let your friends know what you’re up to

For anyone who has a Twitter account you can now link your Thumbslap profile to your Twitter profile, so if you add a game, create a game night or join in a game night it will send a Tweet from your Twitter profile letting all your friends know.

To add your Twitter account, head on over to the social tab in your settings.

Spring Update

Spring is here and with it comes a new update to Thumbslap. Here is a quick rundown of what’s new:

New Look

Thumbslap now has a more streamlined look and feel to make it easier to get to the places you want to get to. Access to your friends list, games list, inbox and game night invites are only a click away now.

Discussions

Thanks to the great feedback we received in our Questionnaire sent out a month back now we have added discussions to Thumbslap. This was one of the most requested features and we hope you all enjoy it.

Auto Invites

Whenever a game night is setup for a game you own, we’ll now automatically send you an invite unless you have changed this setting in your Notifications list. This makes it even easier to meet other players for the games you own.

Games By Platform

Games can now be viewed by each platform instead of just alphabetically. Don’t worry, each platform page still has its own alphabetical filter.

Arrange people by more criteria

To make sure you meet the players who are most active, we’ve given you more options to filter people by. You can now arrange them by Most Active, Most Recent and By Name.

Quick Search

You can now quickly search for any Person or Game from any page on the site as we’ve moved the search box to be just below the logo.

Sorry it’s been so long since the last post but I’ve been busy working on some great new additions to Thumbslap.

If you’ve logged in within the last two weeks you’ll have noticed we’ve completely changed the way we show you events for both you, your friends and everyone else.

Gone is the boring list of events and in comes the new snazzy timeline.

Using the Timeline couldn’t be easier. You can either click on the Next/Previous links near the bottom, or you can just scroll your mouse wheel while hovering over the Timeline. Scrolling your down will move you forward in time, while scrolling up will take you back in time.

Have a play with it and make sure to less us know what you think!

Choose your alerts

We’ve been asked by a few of you about having some more control over what emails you receive from Thumbslap, so you’ll be glad to know you can now choose which of the following notifications you would like to receive.

When someone adds a message to an event I’m playing in
When someone invites me to an event
Reminder 1 hour before the event starts
When someone sends me a private message

To choose your own notification preferences just visit the Notifications tab in the Settings section.

As always, send us feedback if you have any other ideas or suggestions to help improve your stay on Thumbslap :)

Shiny New Things

It’s been much longer than originally anticipated but a new update for Thumbslap.com is finally out of the door and released into the wild.

The main focus on this update was to tidy up a lot of the small bugs that had appeared, whilst also giving the site a new lick of paint which I hope you agree is a big improvement on the last.

There are two key upgrades to mention.

1) Gmail Invites

You can now invite your contacts from Gmail to Thumbslap by simply granting Thumbslap access to your Gmail contact list. This login process happens at Google’s end, we don’t see your password at all.

2) Improved Event Invite system

Inviting friends to your events is now even easier. We now automatically check all of your friends who own the game for the event, so all you have to do is click Invite. There is now also a list of people who have been invited to an event so you can check if your friends might be playing or not.

There are lots of other tweaks here and there and we’ve also put a lot of focus on making the experience for newcomers to the site as awesome as possible.

As mentioned last time (sorry for not doing this sooner!) we’re going to take little bits of the website and do a quick video of how it works.

Biggest update yet

We’ve just finished our biggest release yet on Thumbslap and wanted to let you all know what we’ve done.

Here is a rundown of the latest update:

Private messaging
Individual game pages to help you find events, people and discussions
Discussion boards for each game
Customised news feed on the homepage lets you know what your friends are up to
Complete overhaul for the Games section
Performance tweaks

You may notice we’ve also given the site a new lick of paint to help you enjoy your visit that little bit more.

So that’s it, if you’ve spotted anything broken (we’re only human) or have any comments about what we’ve done, let us know.

Over the next couple of weeks we’re going to take little bits of the website and do a quick rundown of how it works - first one will be adding events.

Timezones are here

Just released some big changes to Thumbslap. Let us know what you think.

Here is a list of what exactly has changed:

Users now see dates and times based on their timezone
When inviting friends to an event, friends who own the game are highlighted making it quicker to invite the right friends
Fixed IE6/7 avatar upload bug
Users are now emailed when someone adds them as a friend
Lots of performance tweaks and bug fixes

Timezones were a key upgrade to the site and had been requested by a lot of users, so we’re happy to say this has now been sorted. We’ve done as much testing as we could, but please let us know if you spot anything broken.

Downtime

We’re back online finally, our hosting company have sorted out the problems (big fire apparently!).

At the moment everything appears to be normal and we’ll be looking into ensuring something like this doesn’t affect our service for so long should the worst happen again.

It’s only been a few days since our last update but we’ve just released some more things that we hope you’ll find useful.

UI improvements to the profile and event pages
You can now edit events once you have created them
The frequently requested password reminder form is now available
Emails sent to everyone playing in an event when someone adds a new note to the event
Fixes to invite friends
Improved UI on form errors
